Story in a few words
Relay follows Ash (Riz Ahmed), a secretive fixer who helps whistleblowers negotiate with powerful corporations while staying hidden. When he takes on a risky case from biotech worker Sarah (Lily James), the job turns into a tense cat-and-mouse game full of paranoia, secrecy, and moral ambiguity. It’s a sharp, modern thriller about staying invisible in a world where everyone is being watched.
In my own words
In Relay the beginning didn’t have too much going on, and unfortunately there wasn’t much dialogue or explanation early on.
Around 40 minutes in, there was finally a bit more action, with some pretty good cinematography at times. Toward the end, the film picked up with more action and a big twist in the plot, which made the last 20–40 minutes pretty interesting.
The actors gave a good performance overall, though I would have liked more explanation about the whole Relay Organisation.
All in all, the film was alright, but for me personally I would have liked more action or bigger things to happen, and also maybe more details about the Hoffmann character. The trailer looked catchy, promising, action-packed, and interesting, but the final film felt a bit different.
Especially with Riz Ahmed playing the lead, I expected more from the plot and the director, because it felt like some talent was wasted. Riz Ahmed is a top-notch actor and could’ve delivered so much more with this character. I think the film would have been more interesting and entertaining if the director had let him be more himself, because an actor’s performance can really change everything.
But for me generally the idea and the story was pretty good.
