Story in a few words

The Passion of the Christ tells the story of the final 12 hours of Jesus of Nazareth’s life. It begins in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prays in anguish, knowing his death is near.

He is betrayed by Judas and arrested by Roman soldiers. Brought before Jewish and Roman authorities, Jesus is accused of blasphemy and, though Pontius Pilate finds no fault in him, he is sentenced to death under pressure from the crowd. Jesus is brutally scourged, mocked with a crown of thorns, and forced to carry his cross to Golgotha.

There, he is crucified between two thieves. After hours of immense suffering, he dies, crying out to God. The earth quakes, the temple veil tears, and his body is taken down. The story ends with a brief but powerful image of Jesus rising from the dead, symbolizing hope and redemption.

In my own words
This film was very important for me to watch because about two years ago, I became really religious, and it turned me into a completely new person. At a young age, I was already baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church. This film gave me a lot of goosebumps and really showed me the sufferings Jesus had to go through. Some scenes were really hard to watch, but those were the actual events that happened.
Mel Gibson, the director, made the film very immersive and historically grounded. I also really liked that the original language in the film is Hebrew—it adds a strong sense of realism. The performances by the actors were really good, especially the score throughout the film. It made the whole experience breathtaking and fitting to the story.
I don’t know what more I should write, because this is one of those films you need to watch at least once in your life. Especially people with faith like me—it reminds us not to lose our faith. Never.
