Inglourious Basterds is a bold and revisionist World War II film by Quentin Tarantino, set in Nazi-occupied France. It weaves together the stories of several characters whose paths converge in a plot to bring down the Nazi leadership.
One thread follows a covert team of Jewish-American soldiers, led by the intense and unrelenting Lt. Aldo Raine, whose mission is to terrorize the Nazis through brutal guerrilla tactics. Meanwhile, a young French cinema owner, living under a false identity, harbors a secret past and a growing plan for revenge.
Tarantino uses sharp dialogue, suspenseful scenes, and stylized violence to explore themes of vengeance, propaganda, and resistance. Though fictional, the film is steeped in the aesthetics and tensions of WWII, offering an alternate-history narrative that’s as provocative as it is cinematic.
In my own words
Watching this film i really saw how you can make a almost accurate film about the 2nd Word War.
The reason why its almost accurate is that Tarantino made some events by himself that didn't happen in real life. But that's why this is film was so fun to watch because in this film a group of people managed to successfully kill Hitler.
It's also very good that Tarantino showed to stories in one film, one of the tragedy of Shosanna the Jew who escaped the killing of her whole family by the detective Hans Landa played by Christoph Waltz. And a group named Basterds also trying to kill Hitler.
When it comes to acting my most favorite character was Hans Landa the nazi detective. Christoph was made for this role. He was such a interesting and scary character during the whole film. Quentin almost abandoned the film because he couldn't find anyone to play Landa. In general all the actors performed really well.
This Film is my most favorite one when it comes to story telling and fictional events which didn't happen.
This film had a great balance of tense and funny moments.
There's not much to say about the cinematography because Tarantino choose his good friend Robert Richardson which of course was great combination. There are so many good shots in this film which where really beautiful to watch.
And of course the legendary ''3 Gläser'' scene which for me was one of the most tense moments in the film because the undercover agents almost blew they're cover by having couple of drinks with a high ranked Nazi officer. You can see that that the officer knows something is odd about those people. He really does it well by indirectly interrogating them all and you just sit there as a viewer and really hope that the officer doesn't find out.
Same situation in the first 1o minutes of the film where Hans Landa is asking some questions to the french farmer about potentially hiding jews. You can already tell that Landa knows something and plays like as he doesn't know. Thats why the film is so great because Quentin Tarantino is playing with our minds.
So what are you waiting for? Grab a stress ball and some popcorn and watch this tense and funny Tarantino classic.
