Story in a few words
After losing their son Hamnet to plague, Agnes and William Shakespeare grapple with grief in 16th-century England. A healer, Agnes must find strength to care for her surviving children while processing her devastating loss.
In my own words
This is the best film so far in 2026, to be honest, not only dramatic enough to have a tear in your eye at the end of the film, but also the performances of the actors, especially Jessie Buckley, deserve the Supporting Actress award at the Oscars. She performed really well and was fully in character. The story in general was really adapted to Shakespeare's story, the music was also perfected for this dramatic story and visually just its own vibe. That's the best film I've watched since Josh Safdie's The Smashing Machine.
Hamnet was such a great film to watch because it was such a dramatic story. My most favorite and at the same time saddest sequence was the one at the end in the open-roof theatre where Will performs with an actor who plays his son who passed away, because back then theatre was completely new to the people, and it was so interesting to watch the reaction of the crowd during the play because they thought it was a real situation but actually it was a play. Those last 10–15 minutes of the film were just pure goosebumps, tears, and heartwarming moments, especially Agnes's reaction (mother of the son) when she saw the soul of her son in the actor and also Will saw him in the actor. I can't really explain, but it was so special and dramatic and the music was so perfect plus the visuals in the scenes, one of the best sequences I've ever seen.
It was such a good film that I'm going to watch it again on the big screen in the theatre, you gotta watch this film in a theatre not on Netflix because films like this one are made for cinemas, it's just.... different... this one will be in my thoughts forever.
