Story in a few words

Dune Part Two takes everything that made the first film so impressive and raises it to another level. It continues Paul’s journey in a way that feels bigger, bolder, and more emotional, with the story diving deeper into themes of power, prophecy, and survival. The conflicts grow more intense, new characters enter the stage, and the scale of the world expands across planets that each feel alive and distinct. At the same time, the film keeps its focus on the personal struggles at the heart of the story, making it not just visually stunning but also emotionally powerful. It’s a grand sci-fi saga that blends breathtaking cinematography, an epic score, and gripping storytelling into an unforgettable experience.

In my own words

If Dune: Part One blew me away, Dune: Part Two completely sealed the deal. Honestly, this is my all-time favorite when it comes to cinematography. There’s one shot that just says it all — when the soldiers are floating out of the ship, drifting past the camera with red sand and red lighting in the background. That picture alone is an absolute winner, and for me, it shows how powerful the film’s visuals really are.
The story this time around feels even more intense, with higher stakes, new characters, and moments that keep you hooked all the way through. The soundtrack and score are also on another level even more epic than in Part One. Every piece of music just fits perfectly and makes the big scenes hit even harder.
What stood out the most for me were the fighting arena scenes. Those shots are not only epic but also incredibly beautiful. I love that they’re shown in black and white — in fact, all the sequences on Giedi Prime, the Harkonnen homeworld, are presented in black and white. Denis Villeneuve made that choice to reflect the planet’s unique ecosystem and the Harkonnens’ brutal nature, and honestly, it works so well. The arena scenes in particular are just unforgettable.
I also think Austin Butler’s performance was the best so far. He played Feyd-Rautha incredibly impressively — there were moments when I completely forgot it was him because he disappeared so fully into the character. But it wasn’t just him — all the other actors delivered phenomenal performances as well, giving the story real depth and weight.
The overall look of the film is probably my favorite thing. Each planet has its own style, and the way the aesthetics shift between them is just stunning. For me, Dune: Part Two has some of the most beautiful visuals I’ve ever seen in a sci-fi movie.
All in all, I can totally recommend this film. For me, it was hands down the best movie of 2024. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and check it out.
