Story in a few words

Two orphaned siblings Andy and his younger, partially sighted stepsister Piper are placed in the care of a foster mother, Laura, who’s suffering from her own tragic loss. What seems like a chance at stability turns sinister when Laura’s grief and desperation intersect with occult rituals. As strange behaviour escalates, the siblings realize they might not be safe and what faith, love, and trauma will drive someone to do to bring back someone they’ve lost.

In my own words
Love the cinematography, the story has a good build up and really plays with your mind. The actors deliver a really great performance, and the film really catched me from beginning to end. The sound design and, in general, the score really gave its own vibe, adding to the unsettling atmosphere. The story is really well, a really well written story and f-upped moments, keeping you constantly on edge. There were really moments where I had to look away because it was so f-upped, but that’s exactly what makes this film one of the best horror films in the last few years.
I think also that the Phillipou brothers really played it clever to introduce the mother who lost its daughter, and her performance was really great, adding even more emotional weight. The first 40–50 minutes you just wait for something to happen, but you wait and wait till it escalates with horror and f-upped moments and that slow burn is what makes the payoff even stronger. I really can recommend to watch this film; it’s really made with passion and love to story writing, and you can feel that in every scene. It’s one of those rare horror films that stays in your mind long after it’s over.
